Jazz Night In Wolfville

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

December 19 is just a couple of weeks away. We’re pretty excited about the opportunity to share the stage with the Fisk brothers and Skip Beckwith. And the  Al Whittle Theatre is a fabulous venue if you’ve never been.

Halloween with The Crypt City 5

Friday, November 11th, 2011

A stressed-out stock broker from 1929, his alter ego – JP Morgan, Gene Kruppa’s long-lost younger sister, Kung Pao grasshopper and the Diva divine. What a swell evening at  Swoon Gallery in Bedford, NS

Key of Largo

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Just got back to town from a visit to Quebec City. We had a fabulous time being tourists dans la Vieux-Québec and single-handedly ate our way through a mountain of croissants and cafe-au-laits. Although we had to concentrate to understand many of the conversations, we ran across a conversation that was pretty easy on our Jazzette ears - Largo-Resto Club. The owner, Gino Ste-Marie, engaged us the minute we walked in the door. Gino is the brains behind the Festival du Jazz taking place this month in Quebec City. We spent a delightful couple of sets listening to the piano-sax duo of Martin Desjardins et Vincent Gagnon, drinking un peu du vin, and chatting about some of the great talent coming this month to Largo-Resto including one of Cynthia’s heros, Mark Murphy. Thanks for a fabulous evening, Gino. We’ll be sure to visit again soon.

Cats and Jammers

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Sat in with a bunch of hep cats on Sunday night at Steve Penny’s in Halifax. Brought my snare and high-hat and played with Steve Penny on banjo and guitar, John Malmstrom on the licorice stick, Ukelele Mike on the electric uke amd John DeWolfe on bass and, dig it, Serpent! Cynthia charmed the crowd with her vocals and ukelele. Home to rest up for this weekend’s gig marathon!

Summer Heat in Hubbards

Monday, July 4th, 2011

A perfect summer’s evening at the Trellis Cafe. The joint was jumpin’ with a full house and all the doors wide open! Reminded me of sitting outside at Cafe du Monde in N.O. Overheard from one of the staff, “This is the busiest I’ve seen this place. Ever!” Thanks to all our friends and relations for making it such a great evening.

Swell New Poster

Monday, June 27th, 2011

A small part of the fun at a recent gig at the Kiwi Café in Chester was this new poster that showed up on the scene. Thought you might enjoy having a peek. We’re playing the Trellis Café this Saturday, July 2nd. If you’re planning on traveling a distance to hear us, consider making reservations as it is an intimate setting.

It’s Raining Cats and Dogs

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Well, to be exact, it’s raining tunes, man. Nothing I love better than to chill in front of the band and take in some of that smooth groove these cats (pardon the reference) are layin’ down. Ella, dig it. Louis, dig it. Chet, dig it. Come on down to check it out some tuneful Sunday afternoon. Me and my cuz, Monty, will be chompin down them bones. Woof.

Swinging in Chester

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

What a blast playing the Captain’s House in Chester last Sunday. We were celebrating an 80th birthday for Carol Hansens’s mother, Grace. She was radiant, even after we sang Happy Birthday. We also got to play with our talented friend John Malmstrom and our long-time bassist and collaborator, Barry Redmond.
